...Due in part to State Mental Health Reform, there is a tremendous amount of change happening within North Carolina's Behavioral Health System of Care. As one actively involved in this system change, I've become aware of how this change is both positively and negatively effecting the delivery of services to NC citizens mental health, substance abuse or developmental disability needs.
A positive change is that consumers now have more choice because there are more providers delivering more services. However, a related problem is that consumers might not have the information they want to make an informed choice about providers as well as services. Key to solving this issue, as well as many of the other ones, is COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION, and then some more COMMUNICATION. Information about many things needs to be communicated
throughout the system of care.
